Plant Portraits
Often over-looked and taken for granted in nature plants gain a new life when they move indoors. Within the confines of their pots they take on an independence, growing and adapting as they see fit without the influence of weather or other plants competing for their soil. In this setting each plant can be appreciated as an individual with a unique set of traits and a personality of its own.

This series marks the beginnings of my endeavor to photograph every plant in my apartment. In the first phase of this project I want to present the plants in a formal manner focusing on their physical characteristics. By using the wet-plate process to create ambrotypes on glass I seek to evoke the somber traditions of early photographic portraiture. This process produces one-of-a-kind positives; images as unique and irreproducible as the plants they represent.
